What is a scalp microbiome?

The scalp microbiome is vital for keeping your scalp and hair healthy. Like the skin microbiome, it provides the first line of defence against harmful pathogens, shielding the hair follicles and the scalp from infection, toxins, irritation, hair damage and more. This results in a stronger scalp barrier and healthier hair. In contrast, a disrupted and imbalanced scalp microbiome can result in irritation, dryness, damaged hair, sebum buildup and may even impede hair growth.

When our scalp microbiome is in a state of equilibrium, these microorganisms do not cause harm. But once a scarcity or overgrowth of certain microbes occurs, this balance is disrupted. Changes in the scalp and its microbiome can lead to several problems like itchiness, irritation, and dandruff. Microbes also reside in the hair follicle, and a disruption in this delicate environment may lead to hair loss.

What is a healthy scalp?

A healthy good scalp is the foundation for good hair. It's a balanced scalp, without excess oiliness or dryness, and free from issues like itchiness or dandruff.

A healthy scalp supports hair growth, strength, and overall hair health. Like how a skincare routine works to promote skin health, a healthy scalp routine provides the optimal environment for your hair thrive from root to tip.

Just as a well-nourished soil helps a plant grow, a healthy scalp nurtures your hair.

Regular care, proper cleansing, and the right products can contribute to maintaining a healthy scalp.

How do I use skelp! products?

When it comes to using skelp! products, there's no one-size-fits-all approach. Just as every scalp is unique, your hair care routine should be too.

Based on research, the ideal balance is to wash your hair around two to three times a week to maintain the hair's natural oil (sebum).

However, determining how often we wash our hair involves various factors. At skelp!, we encourage you to reconnect with your roots, consider the climate you're in, environmental influences, and your specific skin type (whether it's oily or dry). These factors collectively impact how often you should hydrate, nourish, and balance both your hair and scalp biome.

For optimal results, we recommend using the complete skelp! scalp care solutions.

It's important to remember that excessive washing can strip away sebum and potentially lead to scalp imbalances like dandruff. Ultimately, achieving the right balance is key, and skelp! is here to help unleash your hair’s true potential.

For individual product use, please refer to the how to use section for each individual product.

Alcohol Denant in formulations?

We completely understand the importance of transparency when it comes to the ingredients in our products, and we appreciate the opportunity to address your questions.

We recognize that alcohol is often associated for its ability to draw out moisture, but it's essential to distinguish between the different types of alcohols as not all alcohols are created equally and there are many forms of alcohol that can be used to benefit maintaining healthy locks and the formula.

We use short-chain alcohols, specifically Alcohol Denat., as listed in the INCI. Alcohol Denat. is a denatured alcohol, a short-chain variant widely utilized in cosmetics. Its key roles include solubilizing ingredients, acting as an antimicrobial, and providing a refreshing effect. We've carefully selected this type of alcohol to enhance the safety and longevity of our products by preventing bacterial growth.

As our formulations contain naturally derived ingredients, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of hygiene to ensure the safety of your hair and scalp and this ingredient helps prevent the growth of bacteria and fungi in our haircare products.

It's important to note that not all alcohols have the same impact on hair health. In our formulations, the choice of alcohol is intentional, serving a specific purpose to deliver the best results for your hair and scalp.

In summary, the diverse alcohol ingredients in hair care serve different purposes. Some alcohols offer nurturing benefits, while others excel in quick drying. Whether the perception of an alcohol is deemed 'good' or 'bad' for your hair hinges on factors such as your hair type, the product's intended use, and the alcohol's content and consistency in the product.

We recommend conducting a patch test before using our products to ensure they are compatible with your unique hair characteristics. If you have any further questions or if there's anything else we can assist you with, feel free to let us know.

Thank you for choosing skelp! We're here to make sure your hair care journey is as delightful as your hair deserves.
